Abstract

This study explores the dermatoglyphic profile of the Nahua population from the Sierra de Zongolica, Veracruz. The frequencies of digit-palmar dermato-glyphics were analyzed in fifty individuals from two Nahua communities, and comparatively, in a sample of inhabi-tants from the municipal seat, the city of Zongolica, characterized as mestizo. A standardized methodology for this line of research was applied. The results on the frequencies of digital and palmar pa-tterns are presented and compared with published data from other samples of Indigenous and mestizo populations in Mexico. The observed dermatoglyphic variability is presented and discussed through exploration statistical analyses, including bivariate (scatter plots) and multivariate (cluster) methods, using the SPSS software. The dermatoglyphic profile of the Na-hua peoples of Zongolica shows a clear contrast with that of the Mestizo popula-tion from the municipal seat. The former are closer to other Indigenous groups in the country, while the latter exhibit greater affinity with other mestizo series in Mexico and a reference series of the Spanish population.
